Last month our family went to Martin's Cove. We had a great time and made some fun memories! It was nice to see my mom and Ed and to hear a lot of the stories and they have been telling for the past year while they've been serving there. They got to play the part as Ephraim Hanks and his wife Thesby (they dressed up and told their story to different groups that came through the Martin's Cove visitor's center). The spirit was strong along the trail - you can't help but to be so grateful for all that those pioneers went through -- what strong examples they are for us!
Greg and I had a really fun time as we worked together pulling the handcart -- and little Luke was riding inside! We crossed the Sweet Water River with our barefeet as we pulled Luke across in the handcart. We also got to climb Independence Rock, and walk right up to Devil's Gate. In the distance we could see Split Rock...and as we drove from Independence Rock to the Martin's Cove visitor's center my mom pointed to the ground to show us the actual Oregon Trail that can still be seen (which makes since because so many thousands of people used it).
It truly was a wonderful experience and we are so happy that we were able to go. Thank you mom and Ed for letting us be there with you!!
