The Cake!

The Cake.
For months now, Luke has requested a Star Destroyer cake. And, as some of you might know, at the Knight house birthday cakes are a big deal (well, the kiddos cakes, at least)!! So, on Friday night--the day before Luke's Star Wars party--Greg and I got started with the making of this very special cake. We finished it Saturday afternoon...total time of creation took about 3 1/2 hours. It was quite the ordeal (meaning: no major craziness, just really time consuming and lots of measuring, ect.) Most importantly, in the end, Luke LOVED it! And that's what matters most!

Here is a step by step of our cake making process....

 Greg's awesome rice krispy tower!
 measuring out the fondant:

Have any of you ever seen this?...its a giant sheet of rice krispy treats! Nice and hardened, exactly what we needed....
kneading the fondant... nice and gray.
For Luke's space shuttle cake a couple of years ago my friend and I did a lot of "eyeballing" and not much measuring (but, let me add...it turned out awesome!), but for this cake, Greg couldn't be found without his yard stick, exacto knife, pencil in ear, etc.....:) This cake was exact! :)
 fondant.
We are so happy with how it turned out, what do you think??
